Our Story

Hi there, we are Something Blue! We're a small company that believes in the beauty of marriage, the respect that love brings, and of course, the joy of weddings!

We officially formed in 2018 after working in different areas of event management to create the first planning company dedicated solely to Catholic wedding celebrations. We prayerfully made this decision in order to help couples navigate the (sometimes complex) details of Catholic ceremonies, and assist with fitting their unique wedding vision in those rubrics.

We have a patron saint (St. Zelie Martin) a patron designer (Kate Spade) and a fondness of overly sweet coffee. We love the process of getting to know our couples, and contributing our experience and organization to make their wedding as perfect as possible, no matter how many details are involved!

We're Joy and Mary, the founders, co-owners, and friends who make up Something Blue! We're both Indianapolis natives, mothers, and so passionate about this business we've built!

Hi, I'm Joy! After two decades in healthcare and a few years of working with vendors for an annual conference focusing on K-12 education, I was offered an opportunity to be the on-site wedding coordinator for the parish we were attending; one of the beautiful, historical churches in downtown Indianapolis. After just one wedding, I was hooked! 3 years and 70 amazing ceremonies later, I left that position, and with Mary, officially began Something Blue in 2018. I believe good food, good music, and good company are the heart of both a small gathering and a grand celebration. I love to help couples personalize their ceremony or Nuptial Mass by matching the music, readings, and personal touches to their unique wedding vision. My husband and I are the parents of three young adult sons.

Hi, I'm Mary! Growing up, I loved event planning. I planned dances in high school, assisted friends with their weddings whenever I could, and helped plan a series of larger scale fundraising events through my parish. I just love watching all the little details come together to make on cohesive experience after months of hard work! Professionally, I spent several years in restaurant management, where I learned the never ending joys and woes of catering and customer service, before jumping at the chance to transition into weddings with Joy in early 2018. I met my own husband in 2014, and we were married on a very cold and wet May day in 2016. We've since been blessed with two energetic little girls. We love to hike, geocache, and cook together. My passion for weddings stems from the beautiful example of marriage that I was fortunate enough to witness in my own parents and I strive to give that gift to my own children.

Our Team

For us, it goes beyond the traditional rhyme about what a bride should not be without on her wedding day. Blue is the color most associated with the Blessed Virgin Mary and is often the color of rosaries we see wrapped around the stems of our brides' bouquets. We each have a strong devotion to Our Lady and including a reference to her in our company's name is a way to remind us of our purpose when we started our company!
